Above the Abuse

I started a Facebook page, Above the Abuse. I hope to bring some resources and encouragement to anyone checking out the page. Anyone who has experienced abuse of any kind, I hope you get some clarification. How do you know if you have suffered from abuse? Obviously, if you are suffering from physical abuse, there will be bruises, cuts, marks, or some type of physical trauma. It's not okay for anyone to be physically abused. It doesn't matter if the other person became angry or if they feel that you provoked them to anger. It doesn't give them the go ahead to put their hands on you. It is a criminal offense.

If you look up the definition of physical abuse it looks like this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_abuse

Physical abuse📷Classification and external resourcesSpecialtyemergency medicineICD-10T74.1ICD-9-CM995.81[edit on Wikidata]

Physical abuse is any intentional act causing injury or trauma to another person or animal by way of bodily contact.

Physical abuse is often committed against children. Children are less likely to be able to defend themselves and are less likely to tell on the abuser, giving that person the feeling that it's okay to continue. Physical abuse in children can cause delayed emotional development and low self esteem.

How do you know you've been abused? People often have to ask themselves this question. I would always advise to go with your gut. If your gut instinct is telling you that you are being abused, more than likely you are. Your first question should be, "Am I afraid of this person?" If your answer is yes, than more than likely they are abusing you.

Physcial abuse is only one part of the different ways a person can be abused and it is the most obvious.
